Chakwera Leaves For Abu Dhabi
His Exellency the state president, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is set to depart for Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to hold bilateral meetings with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
While in Arabia, the two leaders will discuss a government-to-government agreement on petroleum supply, a crucial topic given the current fuel crisis in Malawi.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting aims to establish a more secure and reliable fuel supply for Malawi.
This development comes after President Chakwera’s national address, he announced his plans to engage with the UAE government to address the fuel shortage.
Malawi has been facing a severe fuel crisis, with motorists experiencing long queues and shortages at fueling stations igniting efforts to address the crisis include transitioning from the Open Tender System to a government-to-government arrangement for fuel procurement.
President Chakwera’s visit will conclude on Sunday 8 December 2024, when he will return to Malawi.
