Roy Kwelepeta, the composer of Malawi’s National Anti-Corruption “Umuthu Anthem,” has called on fellow Malawians to safeguard the nation’s most vulnerable citizens.

Kwelepeta’s heartfelt plea comes after he was unveiled as the winner of the Anti-Corruption Anthem competition by President Lazarus Chakwera at the International Anti-Corruption Day event in Kasungu.

As a person with albinism living abroad, Kwelepeta says personal experiences has deeply influenced his composition.

“I left Malawi during the peak of the killings of people with albinism, leaving behind a great job, a respectable church position, and a crucial family role, all in search of peace of mind,” Kwelepeta shared.

His anthem is a poignant expression of hope that no one will ever have to flee their home due to fear of violence.

Kwelepeta’s vision is for Malawians to prioritize their love for the country over financial gain, expressing gratitude to the Malawi government and the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allowing him to express his talent and deepest emotions for his motherland.

The Umuthu Anthem is part of Malawi’s National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) II, which aims to promote integrity and combat corruption through various pillars of society.

Parliament of Malawi joined the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in commemorating International Anti-Corruption Day at Kaphatenga Primary School Ground in Salima.

The Minister of Information and Digitalisation, Hon. Moses Kunkuyu, was the Guest of Honour at the event with Parliament of Malawi represented by members of the Institutional Integrity Committee and Member of Parliament for Salima Central, Hon. Gerald Kapiseni Phiri.

Celebrated under the theme: ‘Reporting Corruption a duty for all’, the United Nations designated 9th December as the Day to raise awareness of corruption and the role of the Convention in combating and preventing it.
