Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba Appointed New Labour Minister
Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba has been appointed as the new Minister of Labour by President Lazarus Chakwera, replacing Agness NyaLonje who resigned last weekend.
Mumba expressed gratitude and honour, feeling privileged to serve the country in this capacity.
In his state of the nation address, President Chakwera highlighted the government’s efforts to create jobs over the past four years, emphasizing the need to sustain this momentum, including exporting labour to countries like Israel, the UAE, and others.
“…which is why I was reluctant to accept the letter of resignation from Hon. Agnes Nyalonje as our Minister of Labour. But in the end, I had to respect her decision, and I thank her for the service,” said Chakwera.
Mumba has assured the nation that he will not let President Chakwera and Malawians down, committing to his new role with dedication and hard work.
“I don’t take the trust and confidence that the President has in me for granted. I will not let him and Malawians down. As for my commitment, all I can say for now is that, be assured that I never accept something that I cannot commit to,” Mumba says.
As the new Minister of Labour, Mumba’s key responsibilities will include facilitating technical and vocational training, ensuring a high-quality workforce, and promoting socio-economic development.
