FAM Hones Skills of Sports Journalists for Better Reporting

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya has urged sports journalists to uphold impartiality and stay updated on the evolving landscape of football reporting globally.

Haiya emphasized that the days of the media serving as mere mouthpieces for the soccer governing body are behind, and instead, practitioners must diligently discharge their duties to maximize output.

In line with FAM’s football transformation agenda, Haiya highlighted the importance of building the capacity of football reporters. To achieve this, FAM organized a day-long media training workshop at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, which brought together 40 media practitioners from across the country.

The training aimed to equip football journalists with knowledge of the latest trends in the game and enhance their professionalism in football reporting.

“Let me reiterated FAM’s commitment to providing media practitioners with new skills and knowledge to raise the standards of football in Malawi,” Haiya said, adding that “FAM will not relent in providing our media practitioners with new skills and knowledge as we aim at raising the standards of football in Malawi”.

One of the participants, Joy Khakona of YONECO Radio in Zomba, hailed FAM and its leadership for fully incorporating the media in its efforts to develop the game of football in line with the Football Transformation Agenda.

“It is important to strengthen our relationship. These training workshops add quality not only to our football coverage but sports reporting in general,” Khakona said.
