Acting Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Hillary Chilomba, has revealed that the bureau is investigating multiple cases related to fuel and fertilizer procurement.

He made this disclosure on Times Television Exclusive Programme, but he did not provided further details on the matter.

Chilomba said the ACB is taking a cautious approach, carefully investigating the issues before making any arrests.

“Whatever we are doing, we want good results in court, so it is not just a matter of arresting people.” He said.

This approach ensures that the bureau builds strong cases, increasing the likelihood of successful prosecutions.

In exercising its independence, the ACB is committed to dealing with corrupt public officers, ensuring effective public service delivery.

Chilomba emphasized, “I am here to please the law and not a person.”

This stance underscores the ACB’s dedication to upholding the law, regardless of individual interests assuring the public of the Whistle Blower Act aimed at protecting individuals who report corrupt officers.

“Fighting corruption should start with the individuals.” Chilomba concluded.

The ACB’s investigations come amid ongoing concerns about corruption in Malawi’s fuel and fertilizer procurement processes with recent cases, such as the NOCMA fuel supply contract case highlighting the need for vigilant oversight and enforcement.
