Fishermen Die After Boat Capsizes On Lake Malawi

At least a life has been lost on Lake Malawi following the capsizing of a fishing boat at Chiteko near Chizumulu Island on lake Malawi.

Sources on Likoma Island have confirmed that the deceased, Evans Banda and nine other fishermen working for Usipa Company belonging to Ezeline Kajikemo of the same particulars went fishing as usual on the fateful night.

In the morning when they were returning back they met strong winds as they were drawing close to Chiteko Beach that made the boat to capsize.

According Hana Mponda, Officer Incharge for Chizumulu Police, the life lost life is due to serious injuries while others are receiving treatment at Chizumulu Health Center.

“One is dead due to suffocation secondary to drowning,” Mponda said.
