Police in Mzimba have arrested a 100-year-old man for allegedly being found in possession of Cannabis sativa without supporting documents.
The centenarian has been identified as Stanley Gondwe and was arrested yesterday at his home in Manyamula.
According to Mzimba police station spokesperson, Peter Botha, “On the material day, police detectives were conducting a raid in the area and later they were tipped by well wishers that Gondwe was keeping illicit drug at his house”.
Police conducted a search at his house, and in the process they found two buckets full of cannabis sativa.
Gondwe was arrested on the spot and brought to Mzimba Police Station where a case of being found in possession of Indian hemp without a permit has been opened.
He is expected to appear before court soon to answer the charge leveled against him.
It is yet to be seen if Gondwe, 100 can be handed a custodial sentence if found guilty of the crime committed.
Recently, a court in Blantyre handed Mussa John an 8 year custodial sentence for being found in possession of 134 kilogram of Indian hemp a punishment which many observers have described as crude.
Stanley Gondwe hails from Jam Kalua Village Traditional M’mbelwa in Mzimba District
