Hiroshima Takes Over RTMU Leadership

The Board of Directors for the indigenous timber millers operating in Chikangawa Forest, the Reformed Timber Millers Union, RTMU has appointed Alfred John Adams to lead them on interim basis until a new executive committee will be properly elected.

Adam also trading as Hiroshima in the business circles has been elected interim president by the Union’s executive board following the resignation of the acting president, Othaniel Hara who left on personal reasons sighting among others pressure of work.

Confirming his appointment, Hiroshima says his task is just to oversee proper management of the Union’s operations and smooth transition of leadership within a period of three (3) months.

“Am one of the board directors for the RTMU so my appointment as president will only be temporary, to ensure smooth transition of leadership, you might be aware that both our president and his vice resigned so there’s urgent need for prudent management of the 35 member Union,” He said.

Adam also clarified on the progress of Union’s tree planting exercise which has now hit 100 hectares and the servicing of the outstanding K104 million debts the Union owes government.

Confirming his resignation a couple of weeks ago, Hara said he has been very preoccupied with personal commitments hence bowing out for other equally committed members to keep the Union ticking.

“I have been busy all along, year around so I thought it wise to leave the leadership mantle which I also got in acting capacity since the resignation of our then president Mr Nathaniel Banda,“ Hara said.

Reasons for Nathaniel Banda’s resignation still remain sketchy though some informants told this publication that he had some disagreements with his fellow executive members who rebelled against him.

Efforts to seek Banda’s views on the matter proved futile on several occasions as he is always reported to have travelled on business errands in some hard to reach areas, though he promised to respond to our questionnaire which he demanded.

However, Reformed Timber Millers Union’s board chairperson, Paul Nthambazale confirmed the appointment of Alfred John Adam saying it was aimed at bringing sanity and continuity as the Union continues to plant more trees while also establishing closer working partnerships with other relevant stakeholders.
