YPU Gives Credit To MCP On Local Government Elections Triumph
The Young Politicians Union (YPU) – Mzuzu Chapter has commended the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) led Tonse Alliance government for winning people’s confidence despite economic challenges affecting people’s welfare.
Addressing the media in Mzuzu on Thursday on the recent local govetnment by-elections held in some wards across the country, YPU chairperson, Mervin Nxumayo said MEC has handled the polls prudently, despite voter aparthy.
The controversial YPU leader says it is the MCP whose image could be dented if people’s welfare continue not to be well taken care of.
“Let’s give credit to the MCP which is ruling the country despite an alliance of political parties claiming to be in government, no any other party is appearing on MEC ballot paper during the 2021 presidential election,” Nxumayo said.
MEC conducted the local government by elections in three wards in Karonga, Chitipa and Balaka, which have been won by MCP and the United Democratic Front candidate.
“Despite some global economic shortfalls, the MCP seems to be managing the government affairs very well, going by the results of the recent local government by election results, which is a measure of popularity,” he added.
However, the YPU cautioned the MCP not to relax, stating that Malawians are still having huge expectations on the promises it made during general elections campaign, with job creation emerging high among the promises..
Political commentators have described the just gone by local government by elections as a lost hope for DPP, AFORD and UTM, who are struggling to win any election even in areas believed to be their strongholds.
Ironically, UTM and DPP have over the years been claiming that the Northern Region is the first and second stronghold, respectively.
