Mzuzu City Parliamentarian Prioritizes Improved Road Networks
Member of Parliament for Mzuzu City, Bennex Mwamlima says he is prioritising improving the road network in the first three years of his tenure of office aimed at reducing time people spend on the road and traffic congestion.
This comes in the wake of some development works taking place in the city which are near completion and are aimed at easing mobility challenges and reduce the motor vehicle congestion in the M1 and M5 Roads.
In an interview some few days ago, Mwamlima said the city needs to have a complete road network apart from some important structures like the Mzuzu Civic Offices, Youth Center and the new Airport.
“My first two to three years in office is prioritized on building a high-standard road network system which will ease mobility challenges and congestion of the M1 and M5 Roads which uses to transport important goods such as fuels and imported vehicles from Dar-eslam in Tanzania and other essential services,” Mwamlima said.
He further stated that Hilltop, Masasa, Botanic, Msongwe and Kaviwale are some areas which have been listed for the Construction of roads, police units, markets and bridges in the next (2023) fiscal year.
Commenting on the current road construction projects Mzuzu City Councils Public Relations Officer, Macdonald Gondwe says the focus is timely as the Assembly wants to redeem it’s relevance through what it calls urban renewal which cannot happen if there is poor connectivity or poor road network.
“This therefore, is a plus to the Council and we commend government for being consistent in supporting road Infrastructure projects in the City,” Gondwe said.
Meanwhile, guided by the Urban Structure Plan, the city of Mzuzu has in the recent times witnessed the rapid demographic growth, impressive infrastructure development and completion of construction works of the road network connecting Chimaliro, Zolozolo, Botanic and Luwinga with finances from the Roads Fund Administration.
