Zambian Crowned 2022 Miss/Mrs Africa-UK


A 47 year old Zambian motivational speaker who has demonstrated the passion in empowering fellow women in various socioeconomic aspects, Leah Mulando has been crowned the inaugural Miss/Mrs Africa-UK at a contest which was run by the Africa-UK pageant and Women Empowerment.


According to the Malawi Daily Telegraph international news desk, the event was very overwhelming and powerful since so many people supported the platform which empowers women and support families with children with Autism


The crowned Queen who is the founder and Chief Executive Officer for a charitable organization, Angels of Hope for Women works with BAME women in Manchester City in England aimed at empowering and support their socioeconomic growth.


However, the Miss/Mrs Africa-UK programme is not the usual standard beauty pageant organization but rather a real-life showcase of women in Great Britain and it is the first of its kind to be held.


Speaking after being crowded Queen of the night, Malundo said she will continue with what she has already embarked on in uplifting livelihoods of marginalized women whose voice cannot be heard.


“I feel very honoured, out of the nine countries from Africa represented tonight i put Zambia in the limelight carrying our flag high by winning the contest so i will work towards accepting women’s viewpoints and making an effort to seek them, and raise their status through motivational speeches, awareness, coaching and mentoring,” Malundo said.


She further stressed that her aspirations are to take women empowerment to another level over the coming years .


“I will use this opportunity to impact other women by being a role model of what one can achieve if they believe and work hard despite the challenges., at 47 years of my age I have finally achieved my dream of being crowned Queen for doing what I love most,” added Malundo


On second position was Ntombi from South Africa while the founder of Malawi’s Yankho Foundation, Fatuna Sikwese came third.


In an earlier interview with the publication Sikwese said the event is more than the physical appearance and age but incorporates the wholesomeness of a woman, and looks at things such as character, and impact on the community.


“My goal is to reach out to people in Malawi and support families who have children with autism, I have been wanting to set up the yet to be launched, Yankho Foundation last year but now I believe is the perfect time being a finalist in Miss/Mrs Africa – UK,” said Sikwese.

One of Malawians who witnessed the world class contest, Tikhala Chimpango who also work with the ladies who won 1st and 3rd positions, Leah Mulando Chikamba ( Zambia) and Fatuma Sikwese (Malawi) said it was a double win on Saturday.


“The event itself was well organized and the room was filled to capacity. tickets for the event were going for £70, they sold out days before the event itself and there was livestreaming platform and we enjoyed a three course dinner,” excited Chimpango said.


To the excitement of many all the nine contestants did two catwalks, one for the countries they represented’s traditional wear and the second was one in evening gowns.


Out of nine only five went through to a round they were interviewed by a panel of four judges and hree ladies from Zambia, Malawi and Zambia ( 1st) sail through to the Pageantry.


To crown it all the fashion show guests were also treated to world class entertainment of an African dance group and a South African musical artist, LinRic Toto.
