Government Must Resign – Mutharika

Former president, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has called president Lazarus Chakwera to immediately resign for being insensitive to the plight of Malawians as shown by his departure for the United States at a time the country is in a crisis.

The call comes when Chakwera has just left the country for the United Nations General Assembly in the United States of America as well as attending the inauguration ceremony of new Kenyan President, William Ruto.

Speaking during a press conference held at his Page House residence in Mangochi on Tuesday, Mutharika said the state president should immediately return home and resign paving way for a caretaker govetnment of national unity which can fix the economic crisis rocking the country.

“President Chakwera and his Tonse government do not have the plight of the poor Malawians at heart, traveling using a chattered aeroplane on a trip which will not benefit ordinary Malawians is just very unfortunate,” Mutharika said.

The former Malawi leader also bashed the Tonse government for the fuel crisis, erratic power supply and escalating prices of goods and services impinging on the lives of many Malawians whom he alleged are also failing to access quality health services.

He further stated to feel being vindicated after telling people to vote for DPP if they wanted progress while advising Chakwera to live up to his word by resigning having failed to manage the subsidized affordable agricultural input program.

The law professor then accused his successor of canceling some power generation contracts and the Economic Credit Facility initiated by the DPP simply in order to score a political point.
