26 Bodies Exhumed In Mzimba

Mzuzu, Malawi: The District Commissioner foMalawir the M’mbelwa District Council, Rodney Simwaka has on Tuesday confirmed that police in the district exhumed  26 bodies from a mass grave in the Mtangatanga forest in Mzimba.

The District Commissioner told local media that his office will engage the services of a pathologist from Lilongwe to carry out postmortem to determine the cause of the death of the 26 suspected to be illegal immigrants.

“There is need to engage the services of a pathologist to determine the cause of the deaths, considering the number of dead bodies, firstly we have to discuss the way forward on how they are going to be buried,” Simwaka said.

Meanwhile, It has not yet been ascertained as to whether the immigrants were Ethiopian or Somalians.

It is suspected that the immigrants might have suffocated while in a van as they were being smuggled to Lilongwe.
