Billy Disassociates Himself From Anti-Chakwera Song

One of the country’s celebrated musicians, Billy Kaunda has categorically distanced himself from a political song going around in various social media platforms demanding for the resignation of the state President, Lazarus Chakwera.

Billy has since condemned those behind the song whose production was aimed at meeting the genre for one of his old popular songs.

In an interview on Wednesday with the Malawi Daily Telegraph Billy described the whole production of the song as immature coming from some misguided selfish detractors with ill motives.

“I really don’t know the one behind the song posted on YouTube under the name ‘Billy Kaunda’ they really took the instrumentation of one of my old songs but those conversant with music can bear with me that the whole production is very immature,” Kaunda said.

Meanwhile, the veteran musician who is also a politician has sent a strong warning to those behind the song that it will not take long before the long arm of the law will catch up with them.

Kaunda also wondered the ill motive behind the song production stating that those behind it could be some greedy frustrated individuals who were only aimed at destroying his reputation and friendships.

Meanwhile several social and political commentators have called upon the leadership of the Music Association of Malawi to wake up and start bringing such selfish individuals to Court in order to curb the malpractice and protect artistic rights as enshrined in the laws of the country.

“Malawi has a copyright law which was formulated to among others protect the artistic rights and personalities behind the works, let those copying other people’s work be brought before the court and meet the wrath of the law,” said a Lilongwe based commentator who did not want his identity to be revealed.
