Let’s Hope Chizuma Is Forgiven – YHRDN
An umbrella body representing all the youth arm organizations, the Young Human Rights Defenders Network (YHRDN) has strongly warned the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General, Martha Chizuma against repeating the mistake she committed that invited heavy condemnation from some quarters of the society.
The atrocity Chizuma committed took the head of state, Lazarus Macarthy Chakwera to intervene by forgiving the ACB chief just for the sake of ensuring that the fight against corruption in the country still remain on course.
Taking turns in addressing the media in Mzuzu on Tuesday the YHRDN leaders commended the state President for pardoning Chizuma whom they say was trapped in a scheme that was executed with the aimed of frustrating efforts to deal away with graft in the country.
However, in an interview after the press briefing, national chairperson for YHRDN, Mervin Nxumayo commended president Chakwera for timely response to the recommendations laid down in the Chizuma enquiry report which led to the dismissal of the immediate past Director of Public Prosecution, Dr Steve Kayuni.
“We believe that the president has forgiven the ACB Director General (Chizuma) unlike what happened with the former DPP, Dr Steve Kayuni who seem to have been fired after pressure mounting from other quarters of the society who are trying to frustrate the zero tolerance to theft of public resources,” Nxumayo said.
However, the YHRDN has congratulated, Masauko Chamkakala for his appointment as the country’s new Director of Public Prosecutions.
