Maize Price Hit Record High In Mangochi
A snap survey conducted across the country by the Malawi Daily Telegraph has established that the price of a 50 kilogram bag of maize has hit the record high of K38 000.00 in Mangochi district.
The maize Price in the lakeshore district differs with any other place across the country which shows that the staple grain is being sold at an average price of K600.00 per kilogram translating to K30 000.00 per 50 kilogram bag.
However, the maize price still remains unstable in the southern region districts of Zomba, Mulanje, Phalombe and Machinga where most farm gate traders prefer to sale the grain to exporters in bulks.
Meanwhile government has already expressed fears that 4.5 million people in the country will be in need of relief food supplies due to a number of factors that negatively contributed to poor harvest in last year’s farming season.
