The country’s largest wood industry, Raiply Malawi Limited have for the past weeks been involved in a vigorous 5 000 tree seedlings distribution exercise to schools in Mzimba-East, Mzimba-Solola and Nkhatabay West.

And another chunk of 13 600 seedlings goes to communities under Group Village Headmen (GVH), Traditional Authorities (T/A) and Ward Councilors in the two district mainly those who have shown preparedness to take part in this year’s national tree planting campaign.

The initiative is aimed at widening the green cover, providing shelter, protecting water sources, creating a resource for future timber needs and creating an awareness among young people of the values of tree conservation.

Cultivating the culture of conserving the green environment

Speaking to Malawi Daily Telegraph Publications right during the connection of the distribution network in Mzuzu City, Raiply Malawi Limited’s Public Relations Officer, Dalitso Chimwala said his company wants to create excitement for a greener future among future generations hence involved schools and some notable journalists from the Nyika Media Club.

“We are in the course of distributing 5000 seedlings to Mzimba East, 3 200 to Mzimba Solola and 3600 to Nkhata-Bay West constituencies apart from distributing 13 600 seedlings to GVH, T/As and Ward Councilors in the two districts with an aim of creating excitement for a greener future, among our beneficiaries are also some notable journalists who are members of the Nyika Media Club,” Chimwala said.

The Raiply Publicist further stated that for schools in Nkhata-Bay, this has come as double blessing as there is a directive from the district council that each school must plant not less than 100 trees in this season hence the donation therefore saved them the expense of sourcing seedlings elsewhere.
