In an aim of being exemplary in environmental protection, Mzuzu Police Station Officer In Charge, Senior Assistant Commissioner (SACP) , Fredrick Chande on Tuesday led his officers together with Lubinga Police unit in a tree planting exercise.

The exercise took place at Area 1B new habitat on land which is a designated site for new Lubinga Police Unit and staff houses.

Speaking during the exercise The Officer In charge applauded all the officers for taking part in tree planting following the National tree planting season launched by the  State President on December 24, 2022 on  the theme, “Restore the great forest landscape for livelihood security.”

“ The way landscapes have  been treated is detrimental to people’s lives as well as environmental protection, therefore officers need to set an example in accepting the responsibility for the degradation by restoring the great forest landscape,” said Chande.

The Officer In Charge also committed to further lead officers from lower formations in this tree planting exercise so that all police formations are proactive in environmental protection.

“The expectation is to plant 2500 trees however today about 400 trees have been planted. Other trees are expected to be planted at Ekwendeni,  Mtwalo  Engucwini and Enukweni police units,” added Chande.

The trees at area 1 B will also act as a fence securing the land from encroachment. The land was made available by the Mzuzu City Council through a donation from Habitat for Humanity
