NECE Calls For Patriotism In Cyclone Freddy Response

Network for Capacity Building in Education has applauded government for the timely decision to make civil servants to assist their employers, tax payers affected by Cyclone Freddy.

NECE also says governments efforts to ensure that children in disaster affected hard to reach areas return to classes is very commendable hence expecting the school calendar to remain intact.

Speaking during a press briefing in Mzuzu NECE’s Executive Director, Mervin Nxumayo said it is a very welcome development for public employees to consider contributing towards the disaster being principal beneficiaries of the public purse.

“It is very good for the civil servants to be exemplary in contributing towards the Tropical Cyclone Freddy victims, lives must be saved, our civil servants should do that considering that they are primary beneficiaries of the public purse,” Nxumayo said.

In response to the calamity that has befallen the country due to the devastating effects of Tropical Cyclone Freddy, government made an appeal to civil servants to make financial contributions to support the affected families according to their grades.

In a memo signed by Secretary to the President and Cabinet Collen Zamba, government says the contributions should be done in the spirit of ‘Tigwirane Manja’ as encouraged by the state President, Lazarus Chakwera.

According to Zamba, the financial contributions should be done except those working in the affected districts of the Southern Region.
