Bangwe All Stars Player Injured His Manager During Goal Celebration at Karonga Stadium

BY DRAXON MALOYA

Assistant Team Manager for Bangwe All Stars, Maneno Musowa sustained a deep cut on the mouth during the team’s 1-2 win over Karonga United on Sunday when he went to celebrate with the goal scorer for the teams second goal, Innocent Msowoya.

In an effort to hug Msowoya the Assistant Team Manager bumped with his chin on an advancing celebrating player sustaining a deep cut in the process.

This is against an earlier report posted on Bangwe All Stars official Facebook page, alleging that Musowa was attacked by some people suspected to be Karonga United supporters.

Ironically, the team’s Facebook page further alleged that after being treated by the medical team Musowa was rushed to Karonga Police Station to be recorded a caution statement with an aim of lodging an official complaint to the Super League of Malawi (SULOM).

Poviding a post-match game analysis to the club media, Bangwe All Stars team doctor, Blessings Lapken confirmed that indeed Maneno suffered a deep cut on the lip (lower side of the lip).

But responding to accusation levelled against Karonga United supporters in relation to Musowa’s injury, the home team’s Chairperson, Alufeyo Deacon Chipanga categorically refuted the allegation as malicious, baseless and unfounded while asking the Malawi Daily Telegraph reporter if he watched the match.

“I categorically refute that allegation as malicious, baseless and unfounded, no any Karonga United supporter or player was involved in Bangwe All Star’s second goal celebration, Mr Musowa bumped into his own player in an effort to hug him during their second goal celebration,” Chipanga said.

The Karonga United Chairperson further referred our reporter to Bangwe All Stars Team Manager, Steve Madeira for further clarification who unfortunately could not be reached on his mobile phone for a comment until we went to publication.

Meanwhile, SULOM is yet to confirm whether it got a formal complaint on Musowa’s injury at Karonga Stadium.
