Bishop Trains 1000 Women In Soap And Body lotion Manufacturing

In a bid to achieve the status quo in line with the Malawi Vision 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) on poverty eradication the Karonga based, Bishop Agabus Mwang’onda of the World Christian Center (WCC) has embarked on a number of interventions aimed at improving people’s livelihoods.

Among the interventions is a training of 1000 women drawn from various villages in Karonga District in soap and body lotion manufacturing.

Agabus has engaged a capital city based pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprise, BEAM Investment which has so far trained women from Lyembe, Kasewe and Kashata villages.

Speaking to AfricaBriefs the WCC founder, Bishop. Mwang’onda said he conducted a purposive research sample which established that the type of businesses most women are conducting are seasonal and not sustainable considering the current economic situation.

“When we say let’s empower our women, it must be something that is genuine and not these other seasonal business opportunities that are not sustainable considering a number of economic factors,” said Mwang’onda

One of the participants, Patricia Kamanga praised the Bishop for the World Christian Center, describing him as wise and visionary.

“Bishop Agabus is wise and visionary, most women will now be self reliant. Manufacturing soap and body lotion is something no one here around has ever dreamed about,” said Kamanga.

The project which will take twelve (12) months is expected to train more than one thousand (1000) women before it incorporates the youths and adult males.

However, Agabus denied connecting his intervention to political ambitions as rumours mongering around in Karonga Songwe Constituency that he is joining politics.

Recently, a statement issued by the UN Women urged women forums receiving trainings and funds through various interventions to be proactive if they are to significantly reduce cases to do with Gender Based Violence.
