Chakwera Seek German Support On Disaster Recovery, Reconstruction Budget Plan

The Malawi leader President Lazarus Chakwera has appealed for funds from the German government to support its Cyclone Freddy Recovery and Reconstruction Budget Plan.

Chakwera asked for financial support towards the estimated US680 million (about K1 trillion) needed for the recovery plan.

The Malawi leader appealed during his meeting with the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (Unga), in New York, USA.

“Malawi has since developed a casted Cyclone Freddy Recovery and Reconstruction Plan, which shows that it will need US$680 million for reconstruction – resources that the Malawi Government does not have,” Chakwera said.
