Primary schools in the city of Mzuzu will again this year battle it out in Mayor’s Trophy football and netball competitions following the Mzuzu City Council and FDH Bank’s announcement of the dates for this year’s event.

Addressing the media at the city chambers on Tuesday the Mzuzu City Mayor, His worship Councillor Gift Desire Nyirenda said all is set for a total of 65 primary schools to showcase talent in the two sporting disciplines.

The youthful and probably the youngest-ever city Mayor to have emerged in the country says he expects the usual cooperation among stakeholders in education and sports development towards achieving a very successful hosting of this year’s event.

“It is through our usual cooperation that we have achieved the best results in hosting the competition which for decades has produced the cream of the country’s football and netball talents,” Nyirenda said.

He further stated that the climax of the competition in last year’s edition was achieved when champions, St. Peters Primary School clinched gold in the Inter-City Mayor’s Trophy football competition which was held in the capital city, Lilongwe.555t

FDH Bank is sponsoring the Mzuzu Mayors Trophy to the tune of Mk10 million since the year 2020 having signed a memorandum of understanding to bankroll the competition for three years with the option to renew the pact.
