Chakwera Travels To DRC
His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, has departed from the country via Chileka International Airport for Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to engage in bilateral talks with His Excellency Mr. Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President-elect of the DRC, on the side-lines of the President-elect’s inauguration ceremony scheduled for January 20, 2024.
President Chakwera has temporarily suspended his engagements in the southern region but is expected to resume the visits upon his return.
His Excellency Mr. Tshisekedi Tshilombo invited President Chakwera to hold urgent in-person talks regarding regional security matters affecting Malawi Defence Force troops currently deployed in peacekeeping activities in Eastern DRC.
The President is expected to return on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 18:25 hours through the same airport.
On departure, Chakwera was seen off by the Vice President, Saulos Klause Chilima, high ranking government officials and several civic leaders.
