Former minister, Clement Stambuli, who was director of elections for the United Democratic Front (UDF), has resigned from his position and dumped the erstwhile governing party.

Without disclosing his next move, Stambuli, has cited the desire to focus on personal matters as the reason for his decision.

Meanwhile, UDF Secretary General Kandi Padambo Padambo says the party has accepted the resignation with regret but revealed that Stambuli has resigned while he was expected to be invited for disciplinary hearing.

“Our senior member has resigned while on suspension, pending a disciplinary hearing for an alleged breach of the party constitution, a matter that brings complexity to his departure.

The erstwhile governing UDF has for years lost its prominent membership who have either defected to other political parties or retired from active politics due to old age but primarily, financial challenges due to its background of being run from a personal coffer.

Apart from serving in various capacities spearheading socio-economic development at local and international scenes Stambuli MSc has been instrumental contributing to the Forum for Democratic Devolution (FDD) apart from holding portfolios as Minister of Information and Minister of Transport and Public Works.

Because of his vast knowledge in international affairs, the former parliamentarian for Nkhotakota Central was recognised to make a presentation at the recent Renewpac conference in Dakar, Senegal which was officially opening by President of Senegal Macky Sall and Vice President of the European Parliament, Nicola Beer.
