South African Goalie Breaks AFCON Record On Penalties
The Bafana-Bafana’s goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams made a superb save on a one-on-one situation in added time to thwart Cape Verde from advancing to AFCON semis and then proceeded to make history when it all boiled down to spot kicks.
Williams will be remembered for what he has done for his country we might as well declare him the Best Goalkeeper in the World as at now having made history at the continent’s Premier soccer festival.
Despite, Cape Verde controlling the proceedings with frequent attacks originating from the wings and mounting pressure meant to break Bafana-Bafana resolve, on a number of occasions they came close to making a breakthrough but the backline and Williams stood firm.
Even in extra time Cape Verde were marginally ahead and if it weren’t for disciplined defending, the game wouldn’t have gone into enthralling 120mins, then to be decided by spot kicks.
It is at this point that one man held the fate of both the Cape Verde and South Africa at AFCON with Williams diving the right way 4 times to subvert penalty takers of Cape Verde while two South African players missed their kicks-one was saved the other was blasted over the crossbar.
With such an outstanding show of Man of the moment in the African football history, Bafana-Bafana have advanced to the semis and they’ll take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday.
