Minister (Zikhale) Directs NRB Clearance of National ID Backlog

The Minister of Homeland Security Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma has directed the National Registration Bureau (NRB) to deal with the outstanding national identity cards backlog which has rendered the citizenry fail to acquire the cards.

Ng’oma made the directive on Friday at capital hill during the commissioning of the high performance national identity cards printer courtesy of the US Centre of disease control and prevention, UNDP and other partners.

According to Ng’oma, the coming in of the printer will help to improve service delivery as it has the capacity to print over 3000 cards a day.

“It is the vision and goal of the State president Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera that every citizen has a national identity card considering that it is an important tool for the citizen to access social services,”Ng’oma said

The Homeland Security Minister added that NRB should implement a functional review as well as registering the remaining citizens through the mop exercise.

Meanwhile, the Minister has expressed total support toward NRB for it to serve Malawians diligently.
