YHRDN Calls For Continued Dialogue

The Young Human Rights Defenders Network (YHRDN) has stressed on the need for continued dialogue on matters of national importance.
The appeal comes in the wake of some Civil Society Organization’s (CSO) starting holding their vigils at the Attorney General, Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda’s office meant to force him to step down for allegedly failing to provide evidence of recovering 750 million kwacha that the government got duped in the purchase of fertilizer under the government’s Affordable Input Program (AIP).
Speaking in Mzuzu on Tuesday, YHRDN’s Chairperson, Mervin Nxumayo described the vigils as retrogressive only championed to frustrate the Attorney General’s Office from dealing with pertinent Judicial matters flooding the courts in the wake of a multiplied high profile corruption cases.
“The Attorney General’s Office has always provided a room for dialogue on any matter that is meant well for the nation, conducting vigils at that premises will only derail progress in Courts to deal away with a multiple of high profile corruption cases,” said Nxumayo
Nxumayo then declared that the YHRDN will not take part in the vigils called by the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative CDEDI.
There has been a watertight security on Monday at the Capital Hill entrance as some members of CDEDI were holding placards with various anti AG’s messages.
Speaking to the media CDEDI’s Executive Director, Sylvester Namiwa says they will be holding the vigils until Nyirenda steps down as Attorney General for failure to recover the hard-earned taxpayer’s money which was paid to butchery in United Kingdom.
