Mponda Pens Central Bankers Year-Long Deal
Former Malawi National team defender, Peter Mponda has signed a one year contract which will enable him to lead the technical panel for capital city giants, Silver Strikers in the 2024 soccer season.
According to confirmed reports, the Reserve Bank of Malawi sponsored side would like to see Mponda winning at least a trophy in the forthcoming football season, a demand which some soccer enthusiasts says will only exert unnecessary pressure on the him.
Speaking to Times Sport, soccer analysts, Parry Chinyama and Kim Kamau pleaded with the Central Bankers to exercise patience with the former Flames defender.
“Silver Strikers have to allow Mponda to work without any interference. They must exercise caution and hold patience,” Parry Chinyama said.
Another soccer pundit, Kim Kamau praised Mponda as the right choice who has always exercised patience in his coaching career.
He was referring to Mponda’s coaching career dating way back from the time he was at Surestream Academy, an assistant to the Bullets coach, Calisto Pasuwa and the most recent coaching stint in the Rainbow nation, South Africa.
“Peter Mponda is a good coach, a good choice for the Bankers but the targets set by the Area 47 side are not justifiable considering the time frame. They need to give him time,” said Kamau.
Silver Strikers is another football powerhouses but with poor track record in managing their coaches with the testimony of: Lovemore Fazili, Dan Kabwe, Leo Mpulula, Etson Kadenge and Peter de Jongh being victims, shown the exit door within the last four years.
