DPP’s Director of Youth in the northern region, Kelvin Chirambo says the party will rally behind whosever candidate that will contest as Vice president from the region during its elective national convention to be held next year.

Chirambo disclosed this in Mzuzu over the weekend during the party’s meeting for youth leaders from all the political districts in the region.

Chirambo, then appealed for unity of purpose among the youth within the region as the party is strategizing ahead of its National convention.

“We need the unity of purpose ahead of the elective party convention. As a region, we’re eyeing the position of the party’s vice presidency so that it should be grabbed by a candidate from within our northern region,” Chirambo said.

Meanwhile, former DPP’s Regional Governor for the north, Kenneth Sanga, who also attended the meeting which was held in camera, said he is consulting first before deciding on whether he should contest on any position or not, during the Indaba.

“I have not yet made the decision to which position I should vie for in the party, am still consulting and at an appropriate time I will be able to disclose whether I will contest or not,” Sanga said.

Meanwhile, Jappie Mhango is the only one from the region who is known to be vying for the position of the party’s vice president during the convention.

During the convention, delegates are expected to elect new office-bearers into various senior positions of the party including President, Vice President, Secretary General, and Treasurer General among others.
