Having constructed a number of school blocks and bridges in his constituency Parliamentarian Mzimba Luwerezi, Honourable Sam Chirwa has managed to provide desks for all the newly constructed classrooms.

The development comes as part of the efforts aimed at improving the quality of education services in the area negatively affected by shortage of teaching and learning materials.

Chairperson for Mzimba Social Support Network, Keeper Gumbo described the distribution of desks to Tangatanga and other schools as a significant step towards uplifting education standards in Mabilabo area.

“These desks are a step further in an effort to find a lasting solutions towards improving education standards in an area which has been neglected for so long, Honourable Chirwa has done a great job,” Gumbo said.

The supply of desks comes against a background of the whole Mzimba district not performing well in this year’s both, Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations (PSLC) and the Junior Certificate Examinations (JCE).

Commenting on the poor examination results, Parliamentarian for Mzimba Luwerezi, Samuel Chirwa expressed disappointment with the tendency of some teachers who are migrating to to urban areas leaving learners in rural areas without teachers.

“Mzimba has so many schools but without teachers who trek away to urban centers in search of electrified houses, even the NGOs which were supporting the teaching and learning in most schools in the district left long ago,” Chirwa said.

However, the legislature added saying that various interventions are put in place to motivate both teachers and learners to work hard.
