BY: OUR Senior Reporter
“What a great evening at The Lowry Theatre watching THE ISLAND” by Athol Fugard, John Kani & Winston Ntshona with Ewen Cummins and Daniel Poyser as John and Winston
An excellent performance depicting a true life of what happened in South Africa in 1973 at Robben Island, the top security political prison where Nelson Mandela was held.
Two men, John and Winston are sharing a cell, they survived through a mixture of solidarity, laughter and defiance.
Their sense of brotherhood kept them going for years until John hears that he’s going to be released…
One of the renowned book writers, Allan Mandindi describes ‘The Island‘ as one of the most famous plays of the 20th Century and has now been premiered for theatre enthusiasts all over the world.
“A rich, boisterous, funny, moving piece of theatre, it is a hymn to the human spirit and a cry reedom everywhere” said Mandindi hopping for more of such evening experiences.
Nicely directed by Jake Murray to suit audiences of all ages Elysium is proud to bring this 50th Anniversary production to a new generation of theatregoers
