Chakwera Declares 14 Day Period Of National Mourning

President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera in his capacity as Head of state has declared a 14 day period of national mourning for those who have lost their lives following the devastating effects of Cyclone Freddy

Making the directive during the evening state of the national address on Wednesday Chakwera said “the images and footage shared on various media platforms are better than the actual devastating effects of the disaster amidst us, Malawians“.

He further stated that the money (1.6 billion) allocated towards the disaster is far away below what those affected have lost.

Chakwera has directed that the national flag be flying at half must and all those buried by the rubble be exhumed and be accorded proper and dignified burial ceremonies.

All the stakeholders in the fight against the effects of the devastating natural disaster pull in one direction to assist those affected by the Cyclone Freddy.

There should be proper coordination on how the relief channelled towards the victims will be managed, should be systematic and unify the nation.
