Mzuzu Registers First Cholera Cases

Mzuzu city has become the third district in the Northern region to be hit by Cholera outbreak after laboratory results of samples taken from eight (8) people from Chibavi Ward have come out positive.

Mzimba North Health Spokesperson Lovemore Kabaghei has told the media in an interview on Tuesday that they have now reached out to stakeholders for support.

“There is need for urgent attention to control further spreading of this deadly disease, we have already reached out to other stakeholders for urgent response,” Kabaghe said

First to raise an alert of the cholera outbreak was one of the the ward councilors in the city, Gabito Mwaungulu who confirmed a total cases in his area.

“Chibavi is on its knees, as I’m writing seven people in my ward have been diagnosed with this deadly disease. I don’t know what other wards are facing. Unfortunately government is quite on serious matter of this nature”. Writes Mwaungulu on his Facebook page.

The last time Mzuzu City  recorded Cholera cases was eight years ago
