Blue Eagles Failing to Control Players Discipline
BY DRAXON MALOYA
Runners up in last year’s TNM Super League campaign, Blue Eagles FC have demonstrated laxity in disciplining its players both during and after the matches.
Despite boasting to be among top teams with a pool of talented players this season the team’s performance is not all that satisfactory even the club’s technical panel has conceded.
After a one all draw with Moyale Barracks in a scrappy game on Sunday, both the head and assistant coaches, Eliya Kananji and Matthews Sibale could not hide their disappointment with some pockets of indiscipline clearly demonstrated by the team’s senior players.
Immediately after the last whistle of the match was blown it took all the eagles players to rescue the highly charged Malawi National team goalkeeper, Brighton Munthali who wanted to beat the FIFA referee, Mercy Kayira whom by all standard handled the match professionally to probably everyone’s satisfaction except him.
Commenting on Munthali’s shameful behaviour in separate interviews both Kananji and Sibale said as a team they will sit down and provide some counseling not only to Brighton Munthali alone but to all other players as well.
“It is indeed strange that our goalkeeper, Brighton Munthali could not behave in a manner everyone expected but we will sit down with him and make sure that will never happen again,” said Sibale.
The law enforcer’s head coach, Eliya Kananji also conceded that it is indeed true that some senior players in the field of play were issuing instructions to fellow players but contrary to what the technical bench was shouting during the game.
It is yet to be established as to whether the nasty behaviour demonstrated by the Eagles and Flames goalkeeper was reported to the authorities by the day’s match assessors.
Meanwhile, as we went to publication the mobile phones for the Super League of Malawi’s General Secretary, Williams Banda could not be reached to comment on the matter.
