Strikers Get ‘4’ Cards in Blantyre

TNM Super League pacesetters, Silver Strikers accumulated a total of four red cards on Thursday during a league match which they narrowly lost to Mighty Mukuru Wanderers by a goal to nil.

The match failed to live up to its billing as it could not produce any goal until the 46th minute when the Nomads scored their lone goal through Francis Mkonda who was also voted man of the match.

When the Central Bankers were trying to press for an equaliser with less than ten minutes to play before the last whistle their defender Nixon Mwase was shown a red card for an infringement on Chiukepo Msowoya hence giving Wanderers an advantage to defend their goal.

During post-match interviews the Silver Strikers coach, Pieter de Jong had no any kind word for the officiating team whom he accused of being biased towards the home team.

“This is personal, the whole Stadium see that I did nothing, may be it’s time to say goodbye to everyone I think I better go and coach in another country.” Said De Jongh.

His counterpart on the Wanderers side, Mark Harrison described the game as a good one despite missing the service of some of his regular players due to injuries.

“We played very well despite missing some of our players due to injuries but all the same it was a good game,” said Harrison

Analysing the performance of both teams on MBC Television, Zicco Manda said the match was not good enough to the required expectations though he quickly congratulated Wanderers for a win.

Another analyst Gospel Kanyama said the Central Bankers could have avoided some of the cards mainly pin pointing to the national team defender, Nixon Mwase whom he said his card will be costly in their next assignments.

Those who got red cards are: Pieter De Jongh, Peter Mgangira, Sibusiso Padambo and defender Nixon Mwase.
