Grand Palace Hotel Dangles K4.2 million In The North-Volley Sponsorship

One of Mzuzu City’s major hospitality attractions, Grand Palace Hotel may take over the sponsorship of next year’s Mzuzu International Volleyball championship following the postponement of this year’s tournament due to the economic turndown.

The Hotel’s commitment to sponsoring the national championship depends on the overall performance of the Volleyball Association of Malawi (VAM) northern chapter’s prudent financial management in this year’s regional championship slated for the 23rd to 24th of September.

Announcing the news during the press briefing on Monday Grand Palace Hotel manager Sam Chamanza Phiri accompanied by the finance director Thilina Sameera disclosed that the hotel has pumped in K4.2 million towards the regional tourney to be channeled towards cash prizes, trophies, teams and individual awards.

“As a hotel, we feel duty bound to build very good working relationships with clients including the youth who are currently volleyball players,” Phiri said.

The hotel manager then sent a strong warning to VAM northern chapter saying finances are meant for the development of the sport and not allowances for the organizers.

In his remarks, the chairperson of the Mzuzu International Volleyball Tournament Killy Msukwa said his committee is leaving no stone unturned on issues of accountability and integrity which are paramount to keeping the sponsor considering international guests who have been calling to take part in this and next year’s event

“Issues to do with prudent financial management are key in every institution hence our organizing commitment utilizing the finances only towards the intended purpose, we want to keep the sponsorship,” Msukwa said.

Volleyball Association of Malawi (VAM) northern-chapter Chairperson Ronald Mwale made a commitment saying success is what his committee is building on to make sure that this year’s regional championship open doors for more sponsorships.
