MCP Popularity Far Ahead 50+1 – Harry Mkandawire
The Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) second vice president, Harry Mkandawire says the party is now very popular in all the country’s three regions to an extent that it will not seek any alliance partnership during the 2025 general election.
Despite the presence of other parties in the Tonse Alliance at the rally namely: Freedom Party, People’s Party and Umodzi Party Mkandawire was justifying his point in an effort to convince people of Nkhata-Bay to support the leading party in government.
The MCP’s second in command said the party will seeking to amass 70 percent plus votes and will go alone in 2025 presidential election.
“Go everywhere the MCP is on first position if one goes to measure the party’s popularity and no longer struggling to get the 50 plus one the way it was during the 2020 presidential election,” Mkandawire said.
He also echoed his last year’s sentiments declaring the party president, Lazarus Chakwera as MCP torch bearer in the 2025 presidential election.
Surprisingly, among political parties in Tonse Allisnce only the United Transformation Movement (UTM) shunned the development rally at Mkombezi primary school despite attending the commissioning of the Nkhata-Bay Town Water and Sanitation project in the morning hours.
In his speech, Chakwera called for unity among all Malawians regardless of one’s political affiliation.
“We need to develop this country together regardless of our religious, political affiliations, we have the Super Hi~5, Malawi Vision 2063 and not forgetting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that is if we are serious about improving our livelihoods,”
Meanwhile, there are no immediate comments from any of the political parties forming the Tonse Alliance on the remarks made by Mkandawire who is also the minister of defence.
