Teeing Golf In Aid Of Needy Students

The state Vice President Saulos Klauz Chilima joined golf captains on Saturday at the Blantyre Golf Club in a tournament organized by the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) in fundraising for needy students.

Writing on his Facebook page the state Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima said he is delighted to be part of the team that responded to the call to raise funds in aid of needy tertiary institution students.

“I am delighted to have joined the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) today in a fundraising golf tournament meant to raise K250 million to pay tuition fees for 50 students for five years,” Chilima said.

Also writing on his Facebook the chairperson for Blantyre Sports Club, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Royal Medical Center, Honest Chirwa said initially the plan was to raise not less than K250 million but they managed to beat the target.

“The Vice Chancellor gave us a challenge to raise 250 million Kwacha. I feared as a human, we had to pray over it and believed that it is possible. Total funds raisedj were over 361.8 Million Malawi Kwacha,” reports Chirwa.

Chirwa further stated that he took part in this initiative because he still recalls how he struggled while studying at a university: “I also recall how my parents struggled as my father studied while I was 11 years old. A story for another day,” he cut, short.

He then abundantly thanked the state Vice president, companies, and individuals who accepted the call to help needy students, not least the Vice Chancellor of MUST Prof. Address Malata, and his team for what he described as an exceptional commitment.

Lawyer John-Gift Mwakhwawa and his partner Godwin Chimseu came out the best out of the 72 golfers who patronized the golf tournament.
