NYAMILANDU GIVES CLUB LICENCE COMMISSION 48 HOURS TO DETERMINE MZUZU STADIUM’S FATE

MZUZU, Malawi — The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter MacMillan Nyamilandu has given the Club Licensing Committee 48 hours to make a determination on whether to open the Mzuzu Stadium or not.

Nyamilandu’s ultimatum comes following the FAM Club Licence Committee inspectorate team’s visit of the stadium on Tuesday.

Speaking in an interview after inspecting the stadium on Thursday the FAM boss expressed gladness with the enthusiasm demonstrated by the Mzuzu City Council in ensuring that the facility reclaims it’s playable status.

“I’m impressed with the renovations that have been done here. The pitch to now playable, the perimeter fence has been replaced and It’s fit to host games if it passes the Club Licensing Committee requirements,” said Nyamilandu.

The Director of Parks and Leisure at Mzuzu City Council Yotamu Mtafya said the Council is fully committed to ensuring that the stadium gets back to its playable status and a quick completion of all short-term renovations.

“We have done several renovations like pitch, perimeter fence, maintenance of dressing rooms and toilets. We are hopeful it will pass the test this time,” Mtafya said.

Mtafya further disclosed that the Council has spent Mk5 million on short-term maintenance works and it will require an additional Mk35 million to finalise all the remaining works.

Despite no expansion works carried out on the sports facility which was constructed by prisoners from Mzuzu and Rumphi Prisons the City Council has put it’s capacity at 14,200.
