Church Commits Congregants To Service 2 Billion Kwacha Loan

In what can best be described as the hanging of innocent Congregants, the Blantyre Synod of the CCAP Church has urged its members to contribute K10,000 each to assist in settling the K2 billion debt it has by the end of this year.

Several quarters have argued that some greedy Church leaders have thrown the burden of settling the unjustifiable debt to the innocent Church members who are yet to understand how the K2 billion debt came into existence.

A pastoral letter read in all churches on Sunday, the Synod leadership has also requested for the 10 percent of the tithe each pastor gets every week.

The Blantyre Synod recently launched a special appeal strategy for its congregations, aimed at raising funds to assist in meeting economic stability.

The General Secretary for the Synod, Rev. Anderson Juma, recently announced that the church has a debt of K2 billion obtained from ‘commercial banks’, lending institutions, and individuals for some of its developmental activities.

Recently, the Church minister leading the Church and Society Programme in the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia McGowan Mulagha appealed for a waiver of the Pay as You Earn (PAYE) tax pastors remit to government claiming that Church pastors are not on salaries but rather stipends.
