DPP North Endorses Mutharika, Regional Directors Fired

The former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members in the Northern region are nearing an agreement to endorse the party president, Arthur Peter Mutharika as the party’s torch bearer during 2025 General election.

This they say is the only solution to unite the party which is divided with allegiance to the presidential aspirants whom they say are dividing the party with their campaign money.

At a meeting held at Victory Temple Hall during the party meeting in Mzuzu on Saturday Regional Governor for the Northern Region, Reverend Christopher Mzomera Ngwira told the delegates that if Mutharika will stand on DPP ticket then all the divisions because of allegiances to the aspiring presidential candidates will cease.

“Let our party’s National Governing Council (NGC) come out clearly very soon on whom the presidential candidate should be, all the divisions in our party emanating from allegiances to the aspiring presidential candidates will be a thing of the past,” said Mzomera.

However, drama unfolded when some party youths caused mayhem on several occasions demanding the Director of women in the region, Joyce Chikukula and the Director of Youth, Kelvin Chirambo to leave the conference hall on allegations that they have been pocketing money meant for their directorates but only to use for their personal businesses.

On these allegation, the Regional Governor refused to comment saying the party vice president for the North, Goodall Gondwe is the one handling the matter having invited the aggrieved party youths for a meeting at his residence in Chimaliro Township.

However, the party secretariat through its Administrative Secretary, Francis Mphepo has communicated removal from office the Director of women, Joyce Chikukula and the Director of Youth, Kelvin Chirambo promising them positions in the NGC at an appropriate time.

Meanwhile, Kelvin Chirambo has already been replaced by Christopher Mtambo as the new Director of Youth for the Northern Region with immediate effect.

Chirambo and Chikukula, fired

In his remarks, the DPP Vice president for the Northern Region, Goodall Gondwe has called on party loyalists to desist from petty bickering and be united if the former ruling party is to govern this country from 2025.
