First Lady Encourages Girls To Take Education Seriously

First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera has advised girls in the country to remain focused on education if they are to realise a great future.

The first lady made the remarks at Providence Girls secondary school in Mulanje where she visited the students in the wake of Cyclone Freddy.

“When you are educated, you have potential to do whatever you want to do.
You just need to focus on working hard on your school, no one should be left behind and you will have a bright future.

“When you are educated, you can increase your opportunities to do things. It will not matter whether you are from a poor background or not.” Madame Monica Chakwera said.

She also highlighted that she was concerned about girls in school when the disaster occurred. This is why she came out to encourage the students as there are many obstacles faced by girls in addition to the cyclone.

In her remarks, Director in the Ministry of Gender, Alice Mkandawire expressed gratitude to Madame Chakwera as she champions girls education in the country.

“We are happy that you have come to cheer and encourage the girls at this school. As a mininisty, it is our mandate to look after women and girls. When disaster strikes, it is women and girls who are highly affected. We are very happy that you took your time to visit, cheer and encourage the students. ” She said

The First Lady also presented hygiene and sanitary kits to the students.
