Interesting developments are unfolding in the campaign for the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) presidency.

About a fortnight ago, the country’s soccer governing body (FAM) announced that it would have an elective convention on December 16th to elect or give a new mandate to the president and the executive team.

Making a fair judgement it seems Walter Nyamilandu and his associates have and will likely continue securing nominations despite not being widely expected, a clear sign that they are gaining support from even unexpected sources.

It’s always fascinating to see how campaign dynamics unfold in such situations as far as FAM elections are concerned.

It’s not uncommon for critics to voice their concerns about an individual staying in office for an extended period. Some may argue that it could lead to a lack of new ideas and perspectives.

However, it is ultimately up to the FAM affiliate members to decide who they believe is the best candidate to lead and bring positive progress to the association.

In a twist of events, it seems that former FAM First Vice President James Mwenda has now joined forces with Walter Nyamilandu in the race.

Going by a nomination issued by the Central Region Football Association (CRFA) brings another interesting talking point to see the two figures who were previously rivals now competing together against Fleetwood Haiya, the former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets boss.

Against some anticipations, the Association’s 2nd Vice President Othaniel Hara is also assured of a chance to possibly defend his position having secured a nomination to compete against Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) chairman, Lameck Zetu Khonje.

The development adds a new dimension to the election campaign and could potentially impact the outcome.
